33rd Annual TubaMeister Christmas–The Tradition Lives On

The 33rd Annual TubaMeister Christmas continued the tradition of tuba/euphonium Christmas concerts in San Antonio.  This year’s concert included a performance by TubaCabra, a quartet from the 323rd U.S. Army Band, stationed at Ft. Sam Houston.  As he has done for almost 20 years, Lee Hipp, of the San Antonio Symphony, served as the conductor for the mass ensemble.  The TubaMeisters also threw in a performance.

After rain had threatened for most of the week prior to the event, the weather cooperated nicely and permitted the event to go off as planned.  The 155 participants performed a concert that has now been going on for almost a third of a century.  The first Christmas tuba event took place in 1979.  It has grown substantially from the single digit number of partipants to the present San Antonio tradition.

Be sure to watch for notices of the 2012 concert.  It promises to be another special time in San Antonio.
